Antonio Cifra

It is remarkable that a composer with the abundant output of Antonio Cifra . . . volumes of mass settings, motets, psalms, madrigals, and instrumental works . . . should be so little known..  He did spend most of his working career as maestro di cappella at Santa Casa, Loreto, Italy (1609-1629)), rather than a large cultural center like Naples, Venice. or Rome.  He actually did start out as a chorister at S. Luigi dei Francesi,  in Rome in 1594 and held several other posts in the Eternal City, but apparently found his niche in little Loreto where he died in 1629.
