Diego Fernandez

It seems fairly certain that a Diego Fernandez was made Chapelmaster of Malaga Cathedral in 1507, and was described as of “advanced age and sickness” by the Chapter in 1535.  Whether this is the musician who wrote the arrangement of the villancico, “Tres moricas m’enamoran”, #25 in the ‘Cancionero de Palacio’, is under dispute.  The Malaga Chapelmaster managed to survive another 16 years and was succeeded by the great Cristobal de Morales in 1551.
