Juan Hidalgo

Juan Hidalgo was born around 1615 which places his work generally later than our usual repertoire. This little gem was included in a NY Pro Musica program of Spanish music. Hidalgo must have been in his late teens when he entered the music establishment of Philip IV as harpist and harpsichord performer in Madrid 1631. Mostly he wrote music for the stage including the first Spanish operas and zarzuelas. He died in Madrid in the banner year 1685.
