Perrin d’Angicourt

Perrin d’Angicourt, a trouvere, born at Angecourt, Ardennes, c. 1230, 35 of his songs have survived in 11 sources. He may be the Petrus de Augicaria who in 1269 is mentioned as ‘rector capellae’ to Charles d’Anjou, King of Sicily.

“Quant voi en la fin d’estay La fuille cheoir
Et la grant jolivete D’oiseaux remenoir
Lors ai de chanter voloir
Greignour que je ne seloie
Car cele a cui je m’outroie Ligement,
M’en a fait commandement, Si chanterai:
Et quant madame plaira joie avrai.

Translation:

“At the end of Summer when the leaves fall and the great clamor of birdsong is over
I want to sing more than ever
because she to whom I have given myself
loyally has commanded me to sing,
